25TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST 2600 MEETING FRIDAY
Posted 31 May 2012 19:44:18 UTC

It was Friday, June 5, 1987 when we held the very first 2600 meeting at what was then known as the Citicorp Center in New York City. The meeting was modeled after the weekly "TAP" meetings which had been taking place in New York for many years, organized by the phone phreak newsletter which published from the early 1970s to 1983. We had a number of people turn up and it was decided that the meetings should continue. They eventually would expand into cities all over the world and the first Friday of the month became known as "2600 Meeting Day" amongst hackers, law enforcement agencies, and corporate boards everywhere.

Now it's 25 years later and time for a very special "2600 Meeting Day." On Friday, June 1, 2012, a quarter century of 2600 meetings will have occurred. (Somebody can try and figure out how many meetings that comes out to but it's not going to be us.) Wherever you happen to be, please raise a glass to the remarkable progress that has taken place in this amount of time. If you're in New York City, feel free to come to the very same place where the first meeting took place (although it's now called Citigroup) all those years ago.

Thanks to everyone for making this tradition a lasting and significant one.
